within the next 24 hours i’ll be a college graduate. which is superfuckingawesome and also totally bizarre. and the strangeness didn’t hit me until today when someone asked me if i was a ua student. my first instinct was to say yes but that was incorrect.

to celebrate this fabulous occasion i am going the classiest route possible.

BEST WESTERN KAROKE.

i’ve been practicing for this my whole life:

starting at about 930pm. be there or be lame.

also- if anyone actually wants to witness the event it’s at 530pm, centennial hall, FREE PARKING AT THE MAIN GATE SQUARE GARAGE.

i wasn’t necessarily the biggest fan of video art. i never really ‘got it.’ but i thought i’d give it a shot anyways, and see how it went.

at first i felt like i was floundering. it felt really overwhelming with so many things to take into consideration, and having to learn a new vocabulary to be able to talk about what it was i was even looking out or hoping to convey.

eventually, it became much easier. and enjoyable. and actually something i would like to continue. who would have thought?

anyways, long story short – video art is pretty cool. i’ve worked my ass off on this project. and i would really love it if people would come to a free screening to watch my [and my awesome classmates] piece.

so do it.

we are required to take general education classes in college to ‘further our education’ and to ‘become a well-rounded person,’ but mostly it’s to help people figure out what it is they want to do with their time at whatever university.  but what happens if you already know what it is you want to spend your time doing? it ends up just feeling like a big waste of time.

i realized recently that i’ve always known what it is i wanted to do, maybe not all the specifics, but a general idea. and it’s photography. because anything that isn’t involving photography or art has always felt like a waste of time.

i may not have known it in high school, but it’s pretty clear that’s how i felt. as this was my math class senior year on a pretty typical day:

it may not be as dramatic anymore as playing leapfrog in class or erasing math problems off the board in order to make room for our game of hangman, but it still appears. i mean, where do you think robot taco came from?

thanks english 300, for starting the invasion.

maybe gen eds aren’t a big waste of time after all.

i would really love it if everyone could come to my final art show as a student. it’s gonna be pretty awesome, in a rad new space owned by johnny, with delicious FREE food donated by spotlight grill, and live music by tamara and the magic bean.

there will also be some pretty good art too, if you’re into that kind of thing.
